June 2011: Honour, Grace and Empowerment Print

At NKCC we are seeking to build an amazing church family/community where God is glorified and everyone has the opportunities to grow in their faith and their love to God and towards each other. These three attributes when combined together help us to build an amazing church community.

Understanding Honour

How much has God honoured us? John 17 v 22 is a mind blowing verse – “I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one”. We need to understand how much God values us, and then how we can be like him and honour people around us.

Grace

Grace has been lavished upon us, Ephesians 1 v 7-8 – “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us”. How can we lavish such grace on those around us?

Empowerment

Empowerment through Jesus and by the Holy Spirit we have access to the resources of heaven. How can we use these resources to help other people as well as ourselves fulfil their God given destiny?

Equality

It is very important that we look at the whole issue of equality and mutual submission/responsibility; most of us have been brought up with a particular theological view about this, but many in the Christian world are looking again at what the Bible has to say on this issue. We want to adopt a thoroughly Biblical approach and therefore we recommend the following book –

Discovering Biblical Equality: Complementarity without Hierarchy – edited by Gordon Fee

Managing Your Freedom

Freedom without a sense of responsibility will result in selfishness. We need to understand how we use our freedom in the context of our church community and also in the context of the world around us. Everyone should be enabled and empowered with a sense of mutual responsibility. This includes women and men of all ages. How does this work out with children and teenagers? – a good subject for discussion.

Celebrating Success

It is important that we celebrate our successes as well as look to overcome our weaknesses. We have much to celebrate. Jesus taught us to remember him and the Bible is full of instruction about remembering good things. How easily do we forget?

Honour and Identity

Knowing your identity in Christ and also that this applies to each fellow Christian will help us to work out in practice how to honour one another.
