Declarations It is good to make declarations of the things we believe in. Here a few around the topics of joy and hope. You could devise some of your own.

  1. The joy of the Lord is the secret of my strength (Nehemiah 8v10).
  2. There is hope for every person (including me) and every situation. I consistently ignite hope in myself and others.
  3. I lead a ministry that is increasing in joy and hope (Psalms 100v2).
  4. I am replacing the lies that lead to hopelessness with truth that creates hope and joy (Romans 15v13)

Understanding Declarations:

Some times it may seem false and unhelpful to be declaring things that are not quite a reality in your life. If the declaration is clearly based on scripture we may declare it in the same way we would any aspiration or dream. The act of declaring can very often strengthen our faith and resolve to pursue the things we are declaring.

For instance I know I may not always show hope and joy in every situation, but because of God’s presence and power at work in me I can aspire to that and the declaration puts me on the path of faith to see many areas of my life transformed.

Personal Assessment:
Joy
  1. What does joy mean to you?
  2. Where would you like to experience more joy in and around you?
  3. Do your friends and family think you are a joyful person?
  4. What does serving the Lord with joy and gladness look like?
  5. What might be preventing you from being a joyful person?
  6. What does the verse “Joy of the Lord is my strength” mean to you?
Personal Assessment:
Hope
  1. What does hope mean to you?
  2. Where do you experience the most hope in your life?
  3. In each of the areas of life listed below, write one aspect of that area where you need more hope:
  • My relationship with God
  • Family Connections
  • Finances
  • Rest and recreation
  • Personal organization
  • Healthy body and soul
  • Personal growth and development
Personal Action
  1. What are you going to do to increase your personal experience of JOY?
  2. What is going to do this?
  3. What personal declarations could you make to help you move forward in this area?
  4. Identify at least two areas of your life that you listed on your Personal Assessment where you need more HOPE.
  • e.g. Relationship with God, Family connections, finances
Is there a lie that you believe about this area of your life? What is the truth that you should believe and declare about this area of your life?
  • e.g. Healthy Body
Lie - I am not worthy to receive healing
Truth – It is Jesus' will to heal me
  • e.g. My relationship with God
Lie – God is disappointed with me.
Truth – He loves you. You are his child.
