February 2011 - The Goodness of God Print

During the month of February we will be exploring the theme of the Goodness of God. This will be reflected in the Sunday preaching, small group follow up and suggestions for personal reflection and application. Do pray that God will continue to lead us deeper and deeper in to him as we dive into his goodness.

Preaching Topics
Good is Good?
Pete Carter
Feb 6th
Many people start looking at this topic with a question mark. We boldly declare God is good but often our experience of suffering seems to call this into question. Pete will look at these issues and show us how to maintain a good attitude to the goodness of God.

The Overflowing Goodness of God

Kim has been powerfully impacted by the goodness of God and it has made her rethink the way in which we share our faith and minister to others. She will be sharing how she encounters God’s goodness and how to share it with others.

The Tangible Goodness of God
David Webster
Feb 20th
David has come into a fresh experience of God’s presence and goodness. God is more of an “experience” than he has ever been . He will share some of the things that have helped him live more fully in his goodness. Check out Proverbs 3v5,6 in preparation.

Declarations It is good to make declarations of the things we believe in, they encourage our faith. We will give more explanation about these as we go along. Here are a few to start with.

  1. God is good all the time.
  2. The wrath and judgment of God was poured out on Christ so that His goodness could be poured out on me and through me.
  3. God’s kindness leads to repentance.

Personal Application
  1. What does “God is good” mean to me?
  2. Where do I most experience the goodness of God?
  3. In what ways am I most successful in leading people into the goodness of God?
  4. When do I feel most uncomfortable when it comes to moving people into the goodness of God?
  5. What obstacles do I need to overcome to create a personal and corporate culture of the Goodness of God?
Personal Action
  1. Review your answer to no. 5 above. What specific actions will you take to increase your personal revelation of God’s goodness?
  2. Who will help you move forward in these actions?
  3. What declarations will you make to increase your experience and understanding of the Goodness of God in your life?
Church / Ministry
Action Plan
How does this apply to your areas of service in NKCC.

  1. As you review your answers to question 4 of the assessment, which two of your answers are the most crucial for you to address?
  2. What specific actions can you take concerning growth in the above areas?
  3. Who will help you follow through on the above action steps?
  4. What will you declare to accelerate your growth in these areas?

The questions above can be done individually and form the basis for small group discussion. Additional questions may be added following specific Sunday teaching.

Monthly
Meetings
We would encourage as many as possible to come from NKCC to these evenings to review and share what we have learnt together and reinforce these things in our church family life. The 2011 dates can be found here.

Some things to consider in advance of the meeting on 1st March:

  • How should the goodness of God affect our personal lives, our meetings, outreach, reputation.
  • What reputation do we want in the community? Eg coffee and cake, tiger tots, treasure hunts, Kick Kent, Pelham Road, Sundays
  • Where/how can you join in with our corporate expression of the goodness of God?

Questions to be discussed at the meeting:

  • How does God’s goodness flow to others through us?
  • How do we experience the tangible goodness of God? Give recent examples?
  • How do we hold onto the goodness of God during hard times?
